Homemade Remedies – Apple Food Remedies

Apples are an all-American success story-each ...

Everyone has heard of the old saying that “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”  Every old saying has a grain of truth and in this case, more than a grain.  Apples are plentiful nearly all year round and can be consumed in many forms such as fresh, juice, dried and sauced.

The apple contains a large amount of phosphorus, more than any other fruit or vegetable.  Though the main function of phosphorus is to create and maintain bones and teeth, this mineral also assists the body to use fats, carbohydrates and proteins.  Phosphorus helps with muscle contraction, kidney function and nerve conduction.

If you suffer from brain or nervous exhaustion in the form of “brain fog” or fatigue, it may help to consume at least two apples at each meal for a minimum of six a day. In conjunction with this food remedy, avoid tea and coffee and stick with lemon water or apple tea.

Apples, when eaten in either their natural state or sauced without additional sugar, may also help to diminish stomach acid.  This may be a boon  to those suffering from acid reflux and/or frequent heartburn.

Apples may reduce the pain that one suffered with a sore throat.  Simply grate a raw  apple in to a fine pulp, or use natural, unsweetened applesauce.  Eat the pulp or the sauce slowly and hold it against the back of the throat as long as possible before swallowing it.

A recipe for apple tea:  Take two medium to large sized apples – organic if possible.  Wash them thoroughly, but do not peel them.  Cut the apple into thin slices into a pot.  Add some strips of fresh lemon rind.  Pour about sixteen ounces of boiling water over the fruit and rind and let cool.  Strain when cool and enjoy!

Try to enjoy at least an apple a day – your body will thank you!
